The Task

Medichecks is a leading provider of consumer blood test kits. You can buy tests for general health, medical conditions, fertility, and even sports performance. The problem? Users only logged in to check their results, and my client wanted Medichecks to be seen as a trusted health hub that would give them a reason to come back. I explored solutions during my Product Design course at Experience Haus.

The Research

Ideally I would have spoken to existing Medichecks users, to get direction but this wasn't possible. I explored how people monitor their health through things like fitness and diet trackers. I also reviewed took a blood test, and evaluated the end to end service with two research participants.

Across the research 3 key areas emerged that Medichecks needed to excel at:

  1. People need to trust medichecks and their tests

  2. People need empathy and understanding

  3. Clarity is key when it comes to advice

The Solution

I redesigned the app to improve trust and clarity, with professional headshots for Doctor's profiles, and a better formatted Doctor's overview. Key recommendations were pulled out into a separate section, so user can be clear what their next step should be. Where the doctor's report previously advised people to take another test a few months time, it would now give users the option to order this in advance, improving retention. Medichecks could extend this in future to signpost to relevant products, services and articles.
